Don't be surprised by Post Office move

READER Pete Bailey (YA Letters, Aug 18) expressed surprise that the petition to stop the relocation of Romford post office to WH Smiths was ignored.

Why has area been neglected?

AFTER all the song and dance that we had regarding the upgrading of the plot of spare ground (once the Hornchurch cricket ground in Hornchurch if one goes back far enough) next to the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch, I noticed passing by the other day that the newly laid flower beds consisted almost entirely of tall weeds - and this after a dry summer.

So proud of Green Flag

I WRITE regarding St Andrew's Park's Green Flag award.

Police situation is unacceptable

I REFER to your article by Peter Henn (YA, Jul 28) with regards to the closure of Collier Row police station.

Overhaul exam system

ONCE again the youth of today go to pick up their exam results and, surprise, surprise, they are better than ever.

Mixed thoughts on new game

I HAVE read reports on the internet about a new war-themed computer game coming out that allows the player to control Taliban insurgents as they battle against the US National Command Authority.

Trees could never save Southend

SINCE the late 1950s, Southend has gradually been destroyed.

Our money would be better spent elsewhere

LIKE many, I was angered by the removal of the last remaining tree on the Victoria Circus roundabout.

Well said, Mr Foster

YOUR correspondent John Foster (YA Letters, Aug 18) describes Renaissance Southend as the borough council’s ‘partner in bad taste’; nicely phrased and sadly true.

Vote out the liars at next election

THE lies and deceit of Southend Council in cutting down the borough’s trees without any reference to the people in the middle of the night, say a lot about the councillors we pay for.

Whatever happened to customer service?

GO into many of the shops in the town and instead of the staff being pleased to serve you, you are greeted with disdainful looks and it is obvious that the last thing they wish to do is help you.

Give us motorists a break

I READ Mr Ware-Lane’s letter about speed cameras with interest (YA Letters, Aug 12).

Let's look closer to home first

I APPLAUD your correspondent’s letter regarding overseas aid (YA Letters, Jul 15), my long term view.

Don't have kids if you can't look after them

I WAS really incensed to read your headline on August 12, about the ‘Young Mum Hit by Housing Shortage’.

It's the baby I feel sorry for

I READ your front page article on ‘Young mum hit by housing shortage’ with astonishment (YA, Aug 12).
